Check that it is a map-file password

A password on a map file is different from an ECU activation code. LinkECU map-file recovery concerns the original .pclx, .pcl or .pclr file. It does not apply to a locked ECU read, a map that was converted to another format, or an activation-code request. Keep the original filename and extension intact and make your own backup before taking further action.

Check your existing copies and the original author

Look for the password in your workshop records or the message that accompanied the map. If a tuner or workshop supplied the calibration, asking them for access or an authorized unlocked copy may resolve the issue without a recovery request. Keep any working backup separate from the locked file.

If you still need help, note the PCLink software version and the exact message shown when opening the file. Include that context in your request rather than sending screenshots in place of the map. Do not rename the extension to try to make a file appear compatible.

What a manual request needs

There is no promise that every file can be recovered or that a request will finish within a fixed time. If completed, the returned result is a separate copy in the same format with password protection removed and the calibration preserved.

Keep the original safe

Do not overwrite the source map. Store a backup somewhere you control, then check the separate returned file in your normal workflow before using it.
